What Its Like Working At WeDo Electrical

We do all sorts of electrical work around Christchurch. Residential commercial industrial heat pumps data cabling emergency callouts new builds the lot. So every days different which keeps things interesting.

Some days you might be wiring a new house in Rolleston. Next day you could be fixing a restaurant kitchen in the city or doing an office fitout in Addington. We dont just do one type of work so you get to learn a wide range of skills.

The Kind of People Were Looking For

If you're a qualified registered electrician with your license and you know your stuff we want to hear from you. Doesnt matter if you got 2 years experience or 20 years - if you're good at what you do and you show up and work hard youll fit in.

Were also interested in apprentices who are keen to learn. If you're partway through your apprenticeship or just starting out and you want to work with a team that'll teach you properly get in touch.

What matters most is your attitude. We want people who are reliable show up on time do good work and treat customers right. If you're one of those electricians who does dodgy work or doesnt finish jobs properly we're not interested.

Qualified Electricians

If you're already a registered electrician you know the drill. You got your license you know the codes and standards you can work independently.

We need electricians who can do everything from basic house wiring to three-phase commercial work to heat pump installations. The more skills you got the better.

Being able to deal with customers is important too. You'll be talking to homeowners business owners project managers. Need to be professional and communicate well.

Apprentices and Trainees

If you're an apprentice were interested in people who are serious about learning the trade properly. Not just showing up for a paycheck but actually want to become a good electrician.

Well teach you everything from basic wiring to complex commercial installations. You'll work alongside experienced electricians who know what theyre doing.

Apprenticeships are hard work - you start at the bottom doing the grunt work. But if you stick with it and learn properly youll have a good trade that pays well.

We support our apprentices through their training and help them get to their exams and qualifications.

What Skills Do You Need

For qualified electricians you need your practicing license obviously. Need to be registered and have your electrical workers registration sorted.

Should know residential and commercial electrical work. Three-phase power experience is good. Heat pump experience is a bonus but we can teach you that.

For apprentices you need to be enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship program or be ready to enroll. Having some basic electrical knowledge helps but we can start from scratch if you're keen to learn.

Everyone needs a full drivers license cause you'll be driving to jobs around Christchurch.

Day To Day Work

Most days you start at the yard or meet at a job site. We plan out the days work and head out. Could be residential work commercial installations service calls emergency repairs depends what jobs we got on.

You'll be working with other electricians or sometimes by yourself if you're experienced enough. We stay in touch through the day and help each other out if someone hits a problem.

Hours are usually Monday to Friday but sometimes theres weekend work or after hours emergencies. We try to give people a heads up if weekend works coming up.

Safety and Training

Safety is huge. We follow all the health and safety rules cause we dont want anyone getting hurt. PPE site safety working at heights electrical safety all that stuff.

We do regular toolbox talks and safety meetings. And if theres new gear or methods we do training so everyone knows how to use them properly.

The Electrical Trade in Christchurch

Electrical work in Christchurch is pretty steady. Theres new builds happening subdivisions going up. Commercial buildings offices warehouses. Plus all the maintenance and repair work on existing buildings.

Its a good trade to be in cause theres always work and it pays well once you're qualified. And with all the new technology coming out - EV chargers solar panels smart home systems - theres always something new to learn.

What Were Not Looking For

Just to be clear - we dont want people who cut corners or do dodgy work. Electrical work has to be done properly cause peoples safety depends on it.

We dont want people who are unreliable or dont show up. Or people who argue with customers or cause drama with the team.

And if you're just looking for a job till something better comes along were not interested. We want people who actually want to work in electrical.

When Do Positions Usually Come Up

Depends. Sometimes we're growing and need more people. Sometimes someone leaves and we need to replace them. Sometimes works really busy and we need extra hands.

We dont have a set hiring schedule - it just depends whats happening with the business. But by having your CV on file when something does come up we can contact you quick.

What Happens Next

After you send your CV well keep it in our system. When a position opens up well go through the CVs we got and call people who might be suitable.

If we call you well have a chat about the role whats involved what you're looking for. If it seems like a good fit well set up a proper interview.

At the interview well talk about your experience what work you've done what you're good at. Well explain more about what we do and what wed need from you.

If it all works out well make you an offer and get you started.
